Being the only passenger on a bus is a rare treat. If I was ridiculously wealthy I'd ride around in a chauffeur driven double-decker bus, occasionally stopping to pick people up and take them home for free. I'd sit amongst them, pretending to be as bewildered as they are by the whole affair, as the inscrutable driver refused any explanations but insisted on taking them wherever they wanted to go! ;¬)
The minimum fare on a Dublin Bus is now €1.80 and might only take you a few hundred metres, which makes travelling by bus more expensive than a car journey. I've been reliant on public transport for the last year and a half and unless it's pelting down rain I'll now walk most short journeys instead. We're supposed to be encouraging people out of their cars but I'm about to get myself a new one because public transport is just no kind of substitute. Something is wrong with that.
