January 4, 2026 service for the First Unitarian Church of Salt Lake City.

Lay minister Hana Harper explores fear and anxiety as natural but overwhelming forces, amplified by modern life. She invites us to meet fear with mindfulness and community in order to return to a sense of safety.

Rev. J Sylvan reflects on the Apollo 11 mission to the moon as an example of how humanity has faced fear and uncertainty through shared purpose, trust, and collective courage rather than isolation or self-preservation. Contrasting that spirit with today’s narratives of escape and division, Rev. J calls us to respond to fear by rebuilding trust and taking small, brave steps together toward a more unified future.
