"Off to Snug Cove"
Off to Snug Cove from Horseshoe Bay
The ferry drifts and fades away
Children queue for a cinnamon bun
Snack bar employees gossip, their day nearly done
And the ferry groans
Like a tired old poet’s moan
Bowen Island, you’re my cruel friend
You hold me here, and won’t let me mend
Rain on the boardwalk, rain in my tea
The bus driver waves, he remembers me
The tide pulls hard at the rocky shore
While the world forgets what we’re living for
And the ferry horn
a mournful brass cry across the bay
Tells me tomorrow will be
exactly like today
And the ferry sighs
Under cold and heavy skies
Bowen Island, you’re my midnight rain
You soak my heart in a cold refrain
But keep me, keep me in your grey embrace
I’ve nowhere better, no kinder place

The story goes that Jimi Hendrix played The Beatles Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band song just three days after the albums release, astonishing and delighting the band members who were in the audience at a June 4, 1967, concert in London.
Hendrix had learned the song that same day, opened his set with it, and its remembered as one of the most significant musical tributes of the era.
Me, I heard this song during a Phil Hogg concert and I decided to cover it a couple days after I heard it.
Does this make me a modern-day Jimi Hendrix? Yes. Most probably.
I think I got some of the words wrong because I went from what I heard, not from a lyrics sheet. Life finds a way.
‘Blue and Brown and Gold by Phil Hogg (Cover Version)
[Verse 1]
I see you sitting there
A table and a chair
A life of dots and dashes
Cigarettes turned to ashes
Praying for a sign
That somethings coming down the line
Feeling the well has dried up
People are wondering whats up
[Chorus]
But its not required to always be bright
No matter what youve been told
Maybe this is the time when things are hued
In blue and brown and gold
[Verse 2]
The empty coffee cup
You’re feeling all washed up
Looking for a fire
To heat up your desire
But notes and words wont come
senses feeling numb
What if this time is for waiting
Anticipating
[Chorus]
Its not required to always be bright
No matter what youve been told
Maybe this is the time when things are hued
In blue and brown and gold
So look for the sign
The notes on the line
A true heart can never grow old
Theres so much beauty when things are hued
In blue and brown and gold
[Bridge]
Blue is burning bright
Like a pilot light
It’s small, but it’s glowing
Just like your heart is going
Brown is in the shadow
Hiding things that you know
Familiar world cant see them
But darkness can reveal them
Gold is in your head
All the words youve left unsaid
Flickering of light
Flashing of dynamite
[Chorus]
So let the blue light warm us
Let the brown enfold us
Let the golden light us
Let the night come around us
Its not required to always be bright
No matter what youve been told
Maybe this is the time when things are hued
In blue and brown and gold
Its not required that youre always bright
No matter what youve been told
This is the time when your life is hued
In blue and brown and gold

![The Only Cowboy on Bowen Island
The Only Cowboy on Bowen Island
[Verse 1]
He rode up north from the U.S.A.
Left the southern sun at the break of day
With a passport stamped and a beat-up case
He found his peace in a greener place
Now he lives where the herons fly
Near Snug Cove where the docks are still
The Douglas firs and the western sky
Know his name, and they always will
[Chorus]
He’s the only cowboy on Bowen
Brown skin, boots, and a poet’s grin
Rides that trail by Killarney Lake
With a strong horse and the western wind
Folks don’t talk, but the wind keeps blowin’
For the only cowboy on Bowen
[Verse 2]
By Killarney Lake he walks alone
Where the lily pads bloom and the loons have flown
He talks to the trees and they talk back low
In a voice only old island spirits know
[Chorus]
He’s the only cowboy on Bowen
Wears his shadow like a second skin
Paints his truth on a mossy stone
Let the tide wash away the sin
Island quiet, with a spirit showin’
He’s the only cowboy on Bowen
[Bridge]
At the Pub he’ll drink just one
Watch the ferry turn and run
And the stars above the Sound
Know he’s home where he’s finally found
Peace
[Outro]
He’s the only one, the only one

PEQUEÑO MURCIÉLAGO
Original Words & Music by Lisa Jeanette
[Verse 1]
Oh my pequeño murciélago
The sun has set, weve got to fly
We’ll travel many miles tonight
Our wings translucent in the night
In the evening by and by
Oh my pequeño murciélago
We will fly the whole night through
The moon is high, the night is young
The sound of chirping on our tongues
I always love to fly with you
[Chorus]
You take me to the blue agave de agua caliente
We share a moonlit feast of nectar sweet
And when were full of sweet agave de agua caliente
We will return triumphant for tequila
[Verse 2]
Oh my pequeño murciélago
You whisper to me that its time
You caress me with your hands
Your wings enfold me like a band
In this cocoon, babe you are mine
oh my pequeño murciélago
The sun is rising all too soon
Once again we make our flight
Long before the sky is light
Under the cover of the moon
[Chorus]
You take me to the blue agave de agua caliente
We share a moonlit feast of nectar sweet
And when were full of sweet agave de agua caliente
We will return triumphant for tequila
[Outro]
Oh my pequeño murciélago
There will be no tequila when were gone
Tequila needs the moonlit night murciélago

![Holy Roller
[Intro]
For many people, their vehicle is an extension of who they are
So if you’re into Jesus, I should know that when I look at your car
If you’re really into God, I don’t want to hear any excuses
Your car should reflect your faith, there should be no confusion
[Verse]
My car’s got stained glass windows with scenes from the life of the Lord
My top ten scriptures are taped onto my dashboard
Religious stickers on my bumper cover up all the free space
when I push down the horn, it plays Amazing Grace
[pre chorus]
My radio is tuned to religious stations
My seats convert into kneelers for adoration
I keep a shawl in the glove box for people who aren’t dressed modestly
If you ride with me, you’ll cover the parts that should only be shared privately
[Chorus]
But look, it’s not enough to just dress modestly
The crucifix you’re wearing is a good start, honestly
If you’re walking around, that’s the best you can do
But if you’re in a car, people can’t see you
So it’s important your car should resemble an emblem
As a tribute to the fella who was born in Bethlehem
[Verse]
My priest blesses the gas station where I buy the fuel in my tank
One headlight shines the word “God,” the other shines the word “Thank”
And from my rear-view mirror I’ve hung my rosary
I don’t use the mirror to check how I look, ’cause that would be vanity
[pre chorus]
My blinkers go right and left, but also up and down
The same ways souls go when they’re heaven- or hell-bound
I use the same brand of oil that’s used in the Pope mobile
My air freshener is incense, like you’d find in a thurible
[Chorus]
Look, it’s not enough to just dress modestly
The crucifix you’re wearing is a good start, honestly
If you’re walking around, that’s the best you can do
But if you’re in a car, people can’t see you
So it’s important your car should resemble an emblem
As a tribute to the fella who was born in Bethlehem
[Bridge]
There are people who respond, “Hey, that can’t be real”
When I tell them about what I’ve done to my automobile
I’m not offended, they’re not responding out of hate
They’re just not familiar with what someone who’s blessed will do for their faith
[Outro]
If you’re curious about Christianity and you see me driving around
Just give me a wave and I’ll be happy to slow down
If you’re curious about Christianity and you see me driving past
Just give me a wave and I’ll be happy to stop and chat
