ODFW partnered with @DucksUnlimitedInc and project donors, Bill & Theresa Fuchs of Maximized Water Management, to demonstrate the Aquatic Vegetation Rake (AVR) at Ladd Marsh on April 18, 2026. After a brief celebration, the group watched the AVR in action on a heavily vegetated canal which is an essential water delivery system that had become clogged with cattails and bulrush.
The AVR removes vegetation and root systems without disturbing the canal substrate, providing a long‑term solution compared to past short‑term methods like chemical treatment or mowing. This innovative approach will help keep canals open for five or possibly ten years, improving water flow and habitat management across the wildlife area. Special thanks to Bill and Theresa for their generous donation and to Ducks Unlimited for their valuable partnership.
