It’s Amphibian Week! Meet Christopher Cousins, a PhD student at Oregon State University. Chris’ study area is genomics and he works with torrent salamanders.
Cascade torrent salamanders are a species of greatest conservation need in ODFW’s State Wildlife Action Plan, which means there are data gaps that need to be filled in order to better conserve this species. The work Chris is doing for his PhD is one of many ways these data gaps can be filled.
Chris allowed us to follow him out into the field for a research trip and to show us some of the tasks required to get good genetic samples for his research.
