Observing the world’s oceans can tell us a lot about the health of marine ecosystems and the impacts of climate change.
The EU Copernicus programme uses satellites to take images of our oceans from space. However, there is uncertainty when observing the Earth from space.
The Marine Optical Laboratory (MarLab) of the Joint Research Centre is specialised in developing methods to define the uncertainty in satellite data, and it improves the methodologies and protocols for taking measurements at sea.
