Rabbi Swarsensky Worked To Repair The World

Our Manfred Swarsensky Humanitarian Service Award winner this year was Diane Endres Ballweg. Our speaker was fellow Rotarian Lester Pines. In his brief remarks, Lester captured the very essence of the Rabbi: He “worked to repair the world.” From a Jewish point of view, the Rabbi was motivated personally and professionally to urge people to do good deeds and every day to treat people with kindness. To make the world a loving and peaceful place. These in Judaism are “mitzvot,” individual acts done in furtherance of “tikkun olam,” to repair the world. The Rabbi was also a dedicated Rotarian. Why? “Service Above Self” and the “Four Way Test” capture what the Rabbi taught. We honor the Rabbi by living by these Rotary principles.
