January 7: FPS: Teaching How to Think

Lynn Buckmaster, Affiliate Director of Wisconsin Future Problem Solving (FPS), shared the global school-based critical thinking system with Rotarians January 7. FPS combines global issues, creative storytelling and community projects to prepare students for future leadership in business and the community.
Both creative and critical thinking are part of the six-step process, which ends with scoring potential solutions and developing an action plan. Developed in the 1950s, the program teaches HOW to think, not WHAT to think.
Rotarians said they saw interesting relationships to our own ethics symposium and suggested government and business adopt similar formal systems.
