What's It Like to be the Badger State Spelling Bee Champion?

Kelly Lecker, Executive Editor of the Wisconsin State Journal, won the 1985 Badger State Spelling Bee Championship. She was named executive editor of the Wisconsin State Journal last year and considers herself a storyteller at heart and has a love of words, facts and journalism. She says that winning the Badger State Spelling Bee in 1985 at the age of 12 had a huge impact on her life. Kelly is a Wisconsin native and earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and Spanish from UW-Stevens Point.
