Peter recently discovered the correct term for theistic evolution when looking at the Creation Ministries International (CMI) website. Theistic evolution is the Kenotic Heresy. CMI was created from a split with AIG or Answers in Genesis. If you google for an AI overview of CMI it says: “CMI is a creationist organization. It promotes the pseudoscience of young Earth creationism, which is a belief that the Earth and universe are only a few thousand years old and that all life was created by God.”
However every theologian and scholar out there must and does admit that Jesus and the apostles taught and believed in Moses and his six day creation account or his young earth timeline. So everyone who teaches the universe is about 14 billion years old and the earth 4 billion years old is calling Jesus a liar or a false teacher on creation. But even if someone teaches the world is over ten thousand years old he is calling Jesus a liar or a false teacher.
Orestes Brownson, considered by many the greatest Catholic thinker of the 19 century in America called geologies’ old earth doctrine the greatest threat to Christianity. Obviously because it calls Jesus a liar or a false teacher. But many of the creationist organizations, Catholic or Evangelical also say that Geology with its old earth doctrine is the greatest heresy the Church has ever faced.
Notre Dame and the Catholic hierarchy desperately want to believe in an old earth theistic evolution scenario. Notre Dame’s official position, unofficially, is theistic evolution. Behind all this is the huge political pressure to obey science and not theology after the Northern-Lincoln victory over the six day creationist confederacy. Everyone bows to the cannons of Sherman and Grant who are the creators of modern theology according to former Notre Dame historian Mark Noll.
