The trial of John Scopes lasted 8 days in July of 1925. He was fresh out of college and some liberal business men asked him to start teaching evolution in the high school in Dayton, TN. They wanted to challenge the Tennessee law that forbid teaching evolution. The ACLU, who had a lot of liberal Jewish backers got behind the case. It was called the court case of the century. It might have been the final battle of the American Civil War. Six day creationism was a bulwark in the former Confederate bible belt. I had to be taken down said the communists and enemies of Christ.
The main battle facing the Church is what Orestes Brownson, buried at the Basillica at Notre Dame, said it was: geology. Geology remains the Church’s main enemy. |Geology claims it proves the earth is billions of years old. Therefore the story of Adam and Eve and their fall has to be radically reinterpreted to fit into Charles Darwin’s theory. The Catholic Church for some reason capitulated to the political pressure and since Vatican Two teaches theistic evolution in all its churches and schools with very little exceptions.
People have one main decision to make in Western culture. Are you going to believe with Jesus and His apostles in Moses’ six day creation account or are you going to go with mainstream science and hold to an earth formed billions of years ago? These two worldviews do not intersect and cannot be merged. A decision must be made. One view says all things operate on pure chance and the other says everything operates under the immediate and direct control of the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
