Regency Rum Bluffers are about all things Regency and Jane Austen with our own spin.

In our Music section we present 18th - 19th Century music played on either original or reproduction period instruments. Here Ros is playing an original Square Piano made in 1812. She is playing music from the original Knight and Austen music books presently being studied at Southampton University. These have been made public and can be seen online at:

This piece, Nos Galen, was written out by hand by Jane Austen, so we can be sure that she played it herself. The misspelling of what should properly be Nos Galan is deliberate - it was Jane's mistake, so we thought we would leave it there.

For a true Regency sound track you cannot get closer than this: original music played on an original instrument, by a pianist dressed in Regency clothing! The fingers are modern, but the skills have existed for centuries.
