Norbert had been 2-time European champion and 2-time World's runner up to Scott Hamilton in 1982 and '83. Alas, '84 was not to be and this was his last amateur performance as he withdrew from the '84 World's in Ottawa. The crowd loved him, the judges, it seems, had moved on.
