No Holding Back: The Evanston Mayoral Showdown! This was not your typical forum—no fluff, no dodging, just straight answers and tough questions.
Mayor Daniel Biss and challenger Jeff Boarini laid out two very different visions for Evanston’s future. Biss leads with a strong mayor, weak city manager approach—meaning he drives the city’s direction, not the city manager. Boarini vowed to change the culture of city government, calling for leaders to truly listen to residents instead of disregarding them.
Tensions ran high when a resident spoke out about being ignored for three years. Boarini showed compassion, while Biss defended his leadership and his council. Biss also apologized for calling those who oppose Envision Evanston “immoral” but stood firm on moving the city forward. He emphasized the need to turn down the temperature in Evanston politics.
It got intense—but they shook hands at the end.
