Nintendo’s consoles have defined, and defied, the gaming industry for decades.

Nearly nine years after launch, the Switch has become the company’s best-selling system ever, surpassing 155 million units sold.

That milestone follows a hardware history marked by dramatic swings, from the NES reviving a collapsed video console market in the 1980s, to the GameCube’s overshadowing by Sony’s PlayStation 2 and the Wii becoming a global phenomenon.

Now, with the Switch 2 following the Switch’s success, Nintendo faces a familiar challenge - how does it reinvent itself all over again?
