The infamous Colts trick play, often dubbed the "Colts Catastrophe," was a bizarre fake punt attempt run against the Patriots on October 18, 2015. Facing a 4th-and-3 on their own 37-yard line, most of the Indianapolis unit shifted to the right side of the field, leaving only upback Colt Anderson and gunner Griff Whalen behind.
The intention was to catch New England off-guard and draw a penalty for 12 men on the field. If the Patriots didn't have too many players, the Colts planned to take a delay of game penalty. However, due to a massive miscommunication, Whalen still snapped the ball to Anderson. He was immediately smothered by multiple Patriots defenders for a loss, resulting in a turnover on downs in what is widely considered the worst fake punt in NFL history.
