When painting text for any mini, consider using some Space Marine decals (there are usually a lot of extras for grabs from different people).
It's an easier way of creating writing that is properly in scale and small enough. You can do it with freehanding too, but getting it small and consistent enough takes a lot of effort, especially if you need to do it on several minis.
