Speakers: Dr Anthony Holmes (Director of Science and Technology) and Dr Nathalie Percie du Sert (Head of Experimental Design and Reporting), National Centre for the Replacement, Refinement and Reduction of Animals in Research (NC3Rs).
Dr Holmes and Dr Percie de Sert gave examples of how the NC3Rs is leading international efforts on improving the reproducibility of animal experiments, working with regulators and the global pharmaceutical industry to explore whether the traditional animal testing paradigm for new drugs can be changed, and collaborating with the World Health Organisation on its test guidelines for the quality control of vaccines and biologics such as snake anti-venom and blood products.
