Professor Eric Fèvre is a Professor of #Veterinary Infectious Diseases, jointly based at the University of Liverpool's Institute of Infection and Global #Health and the International Livestock Research Institute in Nairobi, Kenya. In this video he explains what he and his #research team, who research animal and emerging diseases in East Africa, get out of using social media.
His research team is on #Twitter and they use it as a medium to share information and thoughts from their group on a number of issues relating to their work. They also interact with other people's findings that relate to their research, and promote events they're attending or organising.
Twitter serves as a dynamic public face for the work they do. It links very closely with the more static information that is provided on the group's website, but Twitter is much more flexible in presenting all types of information and keeping it up to date . In many ways, it replaces the latest news website, but more than that, it is a way to share thoughts and more informal information.
