From geopolitical tensions to rapid advances in Artificial Intelligence, the pharmaceutical manufacturing landscape is undergoing profound transformation. The COVID-19 pandemic exposed vulnerabilities in global supply chains and underscored the urgent need to strengthen resilience, safeguard quality, and ensure equitable access to essential medicines. As systemic instability continues to shape global health, the pharmaceutical industry faces a critical question: how can it ensure reliable, safe, and high-quality production for patients around the world?

This World Health Summit 2025 session – co-hosted by Zühlke – brought together leaders from global health, governance, and industry to explore strategies for securing pharmaceutical supply chains and modernizing manufacturing in a rapidly evolving environment. The discussion was moderated by Angeli Möller (Zühlke). It examined the interplay between geopolitics, regulatory complexity, emerging technologies, and global health priorities.

Speakers Lisa Bonadonna (AVMI), Josh O’Harra (Eli Lilly), and Marc-Alexander Mahl (Fresenius Kabi AG) shared perspectives shaped by work in regional manufacturing, multinational industry operations, and global regulatory systems. They explored approaches to enhancing supply chain security, adopting innovative production technologies, and ensuring compliance while maintaining agility in the face of disruption.

The session highlighted the importance of responsible innovation, strategic international cooperation, and long-term investment to build a pharmaceutical manufacturing ecosystem capable of withstanding future shocks and delivering consistent, high-quality medicines to patients worldwide.
