Evaporation, condensation, precipitation on my mind. This is the (methane?!) cycle and it happens all the time! 🎶
These Webb images, supplemented with images from the Keck II telescope, provide evidence for cloud convection on Saturn’s moon Titan, the only other place in our solar system with weather like Earth!
On Titan, methane plays a similar role to water on Earth when it comes to weather. It evaporates from the surface and rises into the atmosphere, where it condenses to form methane clouds. Occasionally it falls as a chilly, oily rain onto a solid surface where water ice is hard as rocks.
Titan is of astrobiological interest due to its complex carbon-containing chemistry. Organic molecules form the basis of all life on Earth, and studying them on a world like Titan may help scientists understand the processes that led to the origin of life on Earth. Using Webb data, scientists detected the methyl radical CH3, which forms when methane is broken apart. Detecting this substance means that scientists can see chemistry in action on Titan for the first time, rather than just the starting ingredients and the end products providing an intriguing place for further study.

![The Universe Needs Your Eyes! Hubbles Citizen Scientists
Since its launch in April 1990, NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope has captured more than 1.7 million observations of the universe. That enormous archive of images and data opens the door not only for professional astronomers, but also for anyone who’s interested, including citizen scientists, who volunteer their time to help make real scientific discoveries!
Because Hubble produces such detailed images, many of these projects focus on our keen eyesight and ability to pick out subtle characteristics from an image. Researchers can ask volunteers to help spot features that computers might overlook, delicate shapes, or patterns.
Hubble’s discoveries aren’t just made by scientists in labs or observatories… they’re made by people everywhere! Anyone can help, these volunteers do not need a background in science. Students, hobbyists, anyone with curiosity, and time, all contributing to genuine science. Even you can help!
Because sometimes, the universe reveals its secrets only when we look closely, together.

![Far and Wide Part 3: Exoplanets
The James Webb and Nancy Grace Roman space telescopes are NASA’s latest flagship astrophysics observatories. One is in space already and the other will join it there soon. These two telescopes look very different, have different objectives, and together will advance our understanding of the universe. This four-part video series explores the differences and synergies of Roman and Webb.
The Roman and Webb observatories will both make great contributions to our knowledge of worlds outside our solar system, known as exoplanets.
Roman’s survey capability and frequent observations will unveil tens of thousands of exoplanets between Earth and the center of the Milky Way galaxy. Roman’s Coronagraph Instrument contains systems never before used in space and aims to directly image closer exoplanets, revealing types of worlds that astronomers have never photographed before.
Webb also has a coronagraph, and with its incredible sensitivity, Webb is able to measure the light from young, hot exoplanets to determine information about their surfaces and atmospheres.

![Roman Space Telescope and the Journey to Space
NASAs Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope recently completed an epic 8-day voyage, the culmination of more than a decade of dedicated cross-country teamwork. This video retraces Romans journey from humble beginnings as individual components spread across the country to the observatorys completion at NASAs Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md., and finally to the launch site at NASAs Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Next, Roman will undergo final preparations prior to launch, which is slated for Aug. 30.

![NASA’s Lucy Mission Will Explore Asteroid Donaldjohanson
NASA’s Lucy mission is heading to the Jupiter Trojans – an unexplored population of asteroids considered to be the fossils of planetary formation. Along the way, Lucy is traveling through the main asteroid belt, on course to fly past 52246 Donaldjohanson on April 20, 2025. The asteroid was named in honor of the paleoanthropologist who discovered the Lucy fossil in 1974, rewriting the textbooks on human origins.
Donaldjohanson is a member of the Erigone asteroid family, created about 150 million years ago when the large asteroid 163 Erigone was pummeled in a collision. Earth-based observations suggest that it is carbon-rich, has an average diameter of about 4 kilometers, and spins on its axis extremely slowly, giving it a 251-hour “day.” Shortly after the flyby, Lucy will deliver the first close-up views of Donaldjohanson, bringing to light a surviving remnant of the solar system’s chaotic past.
