Nannostomus sp. “Amaya” is a rare and still undescribed pencilfish from Peru, found in the Rio Amaya region within the Río Marañón drai nage. It became known in the aquarium hobby only recently and is admired for its intense red coloration, especially in males.
This small species grows to around 3–4 cm and comes from soft, acidic blackwater habitats. In the aquarium, it should be kept in groups, with clean water, gentle tankmates, fine foods, and a calm, well-structured setup.
