I married my wife for her looks, just not the ones she’s giving me lately. Har har.

Seriously though, this was a fun little portrait of my wife, Rachel, that I did a few years back. I painted it on copper.

Copper is one of the most archival surfaces you can paint on. It bonds chemically to the lead ground and subsequent lead-based pigments. I’m used to a bit more texture, but there was something nice about the smoothness, working with layering.

I tend to paint people I know, and people close, in my circle. I find these are nice to have around reminding me of the connection I’ve built with those close to me.

What’s your favorite portrait you’ve painted? Someone close? They’re powerful, right?
