In this #fridaysews vlog I share my sewing experience of the Style Arc Kennedy Hoodie.
I’m an experienced sewist and took my time looking over the instructions and getting the order of the make set in my mind. Style Arc’s instructions are horribly sparse, in my personal opinion, and these were no exception, but I muddled through the make!
Would I make it again, probably yes, but with some adjustments to reduce bulk, shorten the sleeves and finish the hem off slightly differently. But isn’t this why we make our clothes so we can tweak to suit our own personal look.
Month 6 of the Queen of Diamonds Quilt Block of the Month has been completed. The diamond templates are all coming together. No blocks now until mid-December. So my evenings will be taken up knitting socks. I’ll show these as and when I finish a pair… Like my sewing I’m not the fastest knitter in the world, slow and methodical that’s me!!
It was my son’s girlfriend’s birthday and she loves elephants. So that beautiful Tula Pink blue elephant fabric I showed you last week was actually turned into an Open Wide bag. She was over the moon with it and is always so appreciative of the work that goes into these projects.
WIPs
Finished my Iris Mini Cushion. Though it was creatively finished, I needed to buy a cushion insert for it and I’ve finally done that and it is now out of my WIP box and will be settled onto my living room armchair…. The one no one dares sit because of ‘Mum’s cushions’!
My sewing plans for this coming week are unsure. I’m getting a little fidgety as my WIP box needs serious attention and I think I’m going to spend some time working through a few WIPs. My Caroline Charles’ Crown cushion really needs to be completed along with my Kaffe Fasset cushion and I think I’d like to finish one of the wrap dresses.
Purchases Made and Why
Primarily I have been purchasing sewing supplies in order to finish off some of my WIP projects. So what have I bought?
Interfacing – Through the pandemic I attended an online course all about interfacing. It was very interesting, especially for someone like me who had used the same interfacing in anything and everything, not recognising the importance of stabilising fabrics using the appropriate interfacing for the fabric. I used to buy my interfacing from the English Couture Company, but unfortunately for me, but happy for Michele, who ran ECC, has retired and I have yet to find an alternative supplier. I bought some interfacing to see what it’s like and I don’t like what I bought so I will continue my search for a new supplier.
Cotton – I love Minions of Craft and will always buy my cottons from them. They are extremely reasonable, though they do take an age to arrive, so I plan in advance as much as possible. I’ve bought cottons to finish WIP projects and when I remember I’ll show you how I organise my cotton stash. Love a bit of organising!
Toy Stuffing – Oh My God, I’m absolutely useless at figuring out kilos. I bought this thinking it would be a small bag to make maybe one or two Luna Lapin dolls, but I could make a village of them. Serve me right I should really check.
ByAnnie Mesh – Just adding more colours of this quality mesh to my stash. Always good to have.
100% Wool Felt – I bought this to make some more Luna Lapin dolls as and when I fancy. This felt is top-notch and always great to have to hand.
Tula Pink's Lemur Me Alone fabric to complete two Open Wide bags and Tall Tails in Ink for my Dream Catcher Quilt.
Miniature Buttons – I bought these for adding to Luna Lapin garments. They are so small, maybe a tad too small, but great for tiny clothes!
Toggles – I bought these for the Style Arc Kennedy Hoodie, but not something I'll use again.
