My grandmother told me a story about when she was a little girl in the late 1920s she was out tending the family garden alone when an airplane flew overhead. Imagine seeing an airplane for the first time.

Yet she fell to her knees sobbing because she said she knew that she would never be allowed to be a pilot because she was a girl.

Aviation has been a passion in my life, and I’ve always loved stories of women aviator pioneers like the WASPS and individuals like Amelia Earhart, Bessy Coleman, and Katherine Sui Fun Cheung.
