Historical Belle | My Barbie Dress is a 1960s Classic! @HistoricalBelle | Uploaded August 2023 | Updated October 2024, 13 hours ago.
I kept seeing people make pink checked dresses for when they went to go see the Barbie Movie, and I decided to make one too!! Thankfully I had some pink checked fabric in my fabric stash, so this project was meant to be.

For this project I will be using Simplicity pattern 8591 and it is one of their the reprinted vintage patterns.

This pattern was originally printed as Simplicity 3782 and was published in 1961. Just based off the the design I knew it had to be an early 1960’s dress because it still has the poofy skirt that is so iconic of the mid to late 1950’s. And since Barbie was introduced to the world in 1959 this was the perfect style.

This pattern has 3 versions of the dress. I will be making view A, but without the stripe of fabric trim at the bottom of the skirt.

This pattern was originally advertised as “easy to sew” and I did find the pattern to be rather simple. Let me know your thoughts about the dress and the Barbie Movie in the comments below!
