In 1997 the Daytona RS was released, a sports version which compared to the basic model had benefited from various improvements, especially to the chassis: 10 mm larger front brake discs, WP upside-down forks instead of the telescopic Marzocchi ones, Marchesini rims with the rear 17" instead of 18" and Brembo Serie Oro floating front discs with cast iron tracks. The engine was also slightly revised: the compression ratio rose to 10.5:1 and the power to 102 horsepower, thanks to the use of different profiles for the camshafts and a new mapping for the ECU, now a more advanced Magneti Marelli 16M.
