On the eve of the first anniversary of the raid by Hamas militants on southern Israel, Thai families held a vigil in hopes their loved ones still being held hostage in Gaza would be returned alive. Thai nationals make up the largest group of non-Israeli hostages kidnapped by Hamas on October 7, 2023. One year later, 97 of the 250 people taken captive are believed to remain in Gaza, with one-third of the hostages suspected to be dead.
