The "Double Doink" refers to one of the most heartbreaking and famous missed field goals in NFL postseason history. The league officially changed the stat to a blocked field goal by Hester, which altered its trajectory just enough to cause the double bounce. Parkey had a bizarre habit of hitting the uprights during the 2018 regular season. Most notably, in a Week 10 game against the Detroit Lions, he hit the uprights an unbelievable four times (twice on field goals, twice on extra points). Counting the playoff game, he struck the posts six times that season. Following the miss, Parkey drew criticism for appearing on NBC's Today show to discuss the play, which head coach Matt Nagy publicly termed a "me, not we" move. The Bears released Parkey that offseason on March 13, 2019, sparking an extensive and highly publicized multi-kicker training camp competition to replace him.
