On November 27, 1994, Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino executed the infamous "Fake Spike" (originally known as "The Clock Play"), leading a dramatic comeback victory against their bitter rivals, the New York Jets. Marino later credited backup quarterback Bernie Kosar for the idea. Kosar had brought the concept over from his time with the Cleveland Browns and whispered into Marino’s ear on the sideline to look out for the opportunity. The game-winning catch was Ingram’s fourth touchdown reception of the day, capping off a monumental performance. The play completely broke the Jets' spirit. New York lost the remainder of their games that season, finishing 6–10, which led to the firing of Pete Carroll after just one year. Conversely, it propelled Pro Football Hall of Fame coach Don Shula and the Dolphins to an AFC East division title.
