01:16 - Fragrance Overview
Explorer was released in 2019. It was developed by a three Givaudan perfumers, Olivier Pescheux, Antoine Maisondieu, and Jordi Fernandez. Olivier Pescheux is probably best known for Paco Rabanne 1 Million as well as a variety of other Montblanc fragrances such as Legend.
01:43 - Composition
At first, Explorer is very reminiscent of Aventus with a rich fruitiness. However, it fades and reveals bergamot rather than pineapple as well as sage and peppermint.
Meanwhile, the heart unveils vetiver, musky guaiac wood, and cocoa. Finally, the base consists of labdanum, earthy patchouli, and agarwood. While not an oud, it's still remarkably woody.
It provides a smooth smoking experience with an overall balanced palate, which focused slightly towards the front and lateral fronts. However, it was slightly dry in the first third. The finish lingers quite nicely on the tongue and leaves a pleasant residual scent in the room.
03:25 - Wake & Strength
Although it doesn't quite perform as well as Aventus, it still does itself justice. The sillage offers a pleasant trail, the projection is solid albeit somewhat focused, and the longevity offers a good number of hours of performance.
04:29 - Third-Party Feedback
Among the fragrance community, Explorer has become part of the great Aventus debate. However, it does appear to differentiate itself and has avoided being permanently cast under the so-called King's shadow.
It's mostly popular with people in their 30s or below. Interestingly, we found that women tended to prefer it to Aventus itself!
05:35 - Impressions
Overall, Explorer is an ideal fragrance for men in their early thirties or late twenties. Additionally, it's a daytime fragrance and an excellent companion for the office.
Although it could also be worn casually, we prefer it as a professional scent. Finally, it's not a mild fragrance but it isn't overbearing either in terms of masculinity.

We have a small 30ml travel bottle, which is comfortable in the hand and looks fantastic. The box follows a similar design with a knurled effect that echoes the bottle. As for the atomiser, it offers excellent performance by delivering a thick and focused mist.
Finally, it offers solid value for money with prices starting around $50 and generally around $70 for 100 ml.
