This is Avo Cigars' 2020 edition of the yearly limited-edition Improvisation series. It's produced by Tabadom in the Dominican Republic just next door to Davidoff's gallery. It consists of an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper and a Semilla 151 seco, Meanwhile, the filler features san vicente ligero and seco, piloto ligero, and a Peruvian piloto visus.
02:38 - Look & Feel
Thanks to its Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, the Improvisation 2020 has a creamy praliné shade. the roll is consistent, smooth, but there are a few minor bumps. There's a firm spring, and an oily sheen. In terms of aromas, it delivers brandy butter, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

The Improvisation features a pleasant and balanced draw. It's accompanying notes consist of butterscotch, terracotta, and cinnamon spice.
04:16 - Tasting Notes
The Improvisation 2020 opens with notes of butterscotch, cardamon, and toasted almonds in the first third. The second third follows with malt, pennies, and chargrilled thyme. Finally, the last third reveals notes of cedar, nutmeg, and dried earth.
It provides a smooth smoking experience with an overall balanced palate, which focused slightly towards the front and lateral fronts. However, it was slightly dry in the first third. The finish lingers quite nicely on the tongue and leaves a pleasant residual scent in the room.

Overall, the combustion provided a consistently pleasant draw and a cool smoke. As for the ash backbone, it was somewhat flaky, yet this is quite common among Avo Cigars. There was also some waviness in the burn line, which needed touching up towards the final third.

The Improvisation is beautifully presented with two elegant bands with copper-coloured text. However, like most Avo bands, they're very hard to remove and tend to rip easily. The box is very impressive too and is presented as two cedar trays that stack inside an airtight acrylic container. It's great for presenting the cigars on special occasions.
In terms of occasion, this is a very versatile cigar that can be enjoyed for special events but wouldn't feel out of place when smoked casually. As for the value for money, it costs $16 for a single, which presents itself as a great entry-level luxury cigar.

Consider pairing this cigar with sweet snacks such as fudge, custard-based desserts, or rocher chocolates. You can also try a lightly-peated whisky, mild aged rum, or even a latte coffee. Charles-Philipp enjoyed pairing it with a gourmand Dammann Rooibos tea called "Carrot Cake".
