In the 1980s, Henke Kelner and Avo Uvezian collaborated to create a Maduro for the latter's brand. It was sadly discontinued in 2015 when Avo underwent rebranding. However, it was temporarily launched as a limited edition for its 30th Anniversary. It was then rereleased in 2020 as a permanent addition to Avo's line-up.
The cigars are produced at the OK Cigars factory, which is next door to Davidoff. It consists of an American Connecticut broadleaf wrapper with Dominican binder and filler.
02:20 - Look & Feel
The Avo Classic Maduro features a seal brown wrapper with a regular and consistent roll. However, there are a few soft spots. Nevertheless, there weren't any in the robusto. Overall, the cigars have a firm spring with just a few visible veins. The foot delivers notes of ground coffee and agarwood oud.
03:16 - Prelight
The Avo Classic Maduro offers a pleasant and consistent draw with rich flavours consisting of leather, cacao, and spicy cinnamon.
03:28 - Tasting Notes
The first third reveals creamy, cereal malt alongside cloves. However, it also unveils Kirschwasser, a surprising bouquet of cherry brandy with a certain sweetness. Meanwhile, the second third offers cacao bean and agarwood oud as well as tonka bean. As for the final third, it consisted of coffee bean, nutmeg, and leather.
The Avo Classic Maduro isn't intense but it's certainly complex. It prodives a smooth mouthfeel with a balanced palate stimulation. Despite being a consistent cigar, it offers a distinctive evolution between each third.
05:20 - Burn
The Classic Maduro features a pleasant draw and cool smoke throughout the cigar. Furthermore, it has a surprisingly strong ash backbone and a straight burn for an Avo. Although there were a few minor burning issues, they usually corrected themselves quite well.
05:54 - Overall Experience
The Avo Classic Maduro is adorned with a beautiful band with a gold metallic colour, which contrasts against black. Meanwhile, the value is surprisingly affordable with a single cigar costing under $10. For an entry premium cigar, this is impressive to say the least!
Furthermore, it's a very versatile cigar that can be enjoyed casually alone or with friends. Otherwise, you can also enjoy it at a special occasion such as a wedding or a formal dinner.

Consider pairing the Avo Classic Maduro with chargrilled veal, saffron dark chocolate by Argencove, or candied peanuts.
As for beverages, we would suggest a cognac, an Islay Single Malt Scotch whisky, or potentially an espresso coffee.

Maduro cigars on the market tend to be overly strong in both body and flavour. Avo offers a wonderfully milder alternative that instead focuses on complexity and nuance rather than boldness. As a result, it's an excellent alternative compared to the usual Maduro blends on the market.
