Another pretty ridiculous seeded run. It all started when I heard about a glitch related to Organ Harvester at the Monster Train Discord. This equipment can be given to enemies, with some bizarre results. I just had to give it a try myself... and after some investigating and realizing its potential, I searched a while for a good seed and got this run done.
If you combine Organ Harvester with other equipment, you can give bosses the properties of another equipment as well. While most equipment effects are beneficial, you can use this trick to smuggle two detrimental properties too: Fragile from Glass Cannon, or like in this run, Burnout 1 from Resin Blades. Fragile kills any boss with one hit with the exception of Titans (the equipped Titan goes to 1 HP, but the fight won't end until all three Titans are dead). Resin Blades is even more powerful, as Burnout 1 kills all three Titans simultaneously.
0:00 - Setup and Ring 1
I need both Lazarus League for their Organ Harvester as well as Melting Remnant for Resin Blades for this route to work. (Although you might be able to get the latter from a rare draft event as well with other Clans?) I decided to primary with Remnant since "Burn Bright" gives you great stats for quick damage dealing, plus it works well for Brain Transfer later on.
Thanks to Pyre of Dominion, I get an Organ Harvester at the start. Shattered Halo makes it possible to find a Resin Blades shortly afterwards in one of the early fights.
Wickless Baron turned out to be a surprisingly solid starter card since his fast scaling makes him useful for both combat and later tanking, even with no upgrades. But the true unsung hero of this run is the Twisted Assistant and his grafted equipment. It gives effortless damage scaling and carries almost the entire game by itself (outside boss fights).
I setup the first boss fight so that Wickless Baron fights the boss alone with Twisted Back equipped. Trading blows one-on-one is faster than having Rector Flicker stay alive (as he hits for less than Wickless Baron).
Card reward: skip.
0:52 - Ring 2
Don't need anything from the store, so I just plow on ahead to next fight. Similar tactics and setup. I take the Trial because cash is important soon and I figure this one is faster to take of the early Trials.
The 2nd boss is tougher, so I keep Rector Flicker around a little longer with a Hallowed Drippings. It's quite a minimalistic completion; it might still go a little faster with another setup.
Card reward: Resin Blades! (plus Ember)
1:44 - Ring 3
I go to the equipment store to prepare the deadly present. It costs a massive 4 energy to play, but thankfully (deployable) Weapon Cache is also here to help shoulder the costs.
Synopsis of boss fight:
- "Hey, would you hold this for me for a second."
- "Whu.... NOOOOOOOOOO! (Arkion explodes)"
Small time saving detail: it's possible to begin next turn while the "draw" animation of Weapon Cache is playing with precise timing.
Card reward: Test Subject Alpha! (very important) I also pick Energy to make using my secret weapon easier in the future.
2:19 - Ring 4
I start giving TSA some Multi-strike for the future. Delete one card (to manipulate draw orders). Upgrade Rector Flicker.
As for the fight, TSA with Twisted Back carries the fight while Wickless Baron is tanking. Rector Flicker is played for card order and for damaging any enemies who slip through.
Card reward: Brain Transfer! (kind of important)
3:17 - Ring 5
TSA gets another Multi-strike.
Fight tactic is almost the same as before. Brain Transfer wouldn't have really helped in this fight since Reanimator cares more for the number rather than the damage of your hits. The secret weapon is also sub-optimal against this boss - all it does is drain one reanimate from him per turn.
At 3:50, I give the ascending enemy the secret weapon because it would be slower (and look uglier) to have him fight the Pyre for 3 whole rounds.
4:16 - Ring 6
I make Brain Transfer Intrinsic for the future.
Synopsis of boss fight:
- "Hey, would you hold this for me for a sec."
- "Eh...? NOOOOOOOO! (Cael explodes)"
Card reward: skipped, I need nothing else for the rest of the run.
4:46 - Ring 7
Upgrade Rector. I also take some Pyre for luck.
This fight is dealt with Brain Transfer and Organ Harvester instead of scaling damage with Twisted Back.
05:38 - Ring 8
Same story: I give the weapon to the boss and... he is so touched by my generosity that he decides to end hostilities immediately.
5:53 - Ring 9
Titans as well.
Another small time saving trick: you can play other cards while the "draw" animation is on the screen, so I use the time to play the Blight in my hand.
Time could go still lower with better card draw orders (like if you always got secret weapon in your starting hand, like in the Seraph fight).
The devs patched this glitch in v. 1.2.2, but at least this video will serve as a piece of glitch history for MT2.
(This run was done on 1.2.1.)
