A very special pet from 二叔公养鱼记 in Guangxi (China). It has now gotten used to its owner and is somewhat tame.
🐟 Monopterus albus – the Asian Swamp Eel!
This remarkable fish is native to East and Southeast Asia and is known for its ability to breathe through its skin and mouth lining.
It can survive out of water for several days, slithering across land to find new habitats. With no scales and a snake-like body, it thrives in rice paddies, swamps, and canals.
But beware — when introduced to new environments, it becomes highly invasive and threatens local ecosystems.
👉 Fun fact: It has no fins or gills like most fish, and both males and females can change sex during their lives!
