Tetraodon schoutedeni β the Spotted Congo Puffer! π‘
This fascinating true freshwater puffer comes from Central Africa, especially the Congo River system. Unlike some other pufferfish, Tetraodon schoutedeni does not require brackish water and should be kept in freshwater.
In nature, it feeds on snails, worms, insect larvae, small crustaceans and other invertebrates. Growing to around 8β10 cm, it stays relatively compact but needs a well-structured aquarium with roots, rocks, caves and plants.
Hard-shelled food such as snails should be offered regularly to help wear down their constantly growing teeth.
