The Minnesota Commercial runs on some neat tracks in the Twin Cities. One of the RAREST lines to see is that which runs by the U of M, and MASSIVE abandoned grain elevators. By sheer chance, I was able to see a train working this line by sheer luck, and it was pretty cool!
Of all the routes and lines to see a train on in the Twin Cities, this has to be one of the rarest, and hardest. This route skirts along the U of M, and runs on bits of the former passenger mainline towards downtown Mpls. It gets service ONLY as needed, which makes seeing any trains along it a challenge. We'll watch as it works the rails past large abandoned grain elevators, signs when Minneapolis was the grain milling capital of the world. Now, they serve as a reminder of what once was! After working one of the few customers left, we'll see the train come back towards the MNNR's yard, and meet a number of trains along the way!
