Mike Winger Follows Up on His Bethel Church Redding Exposure They Are Not Keeping Promise For Reform. Mike Winger says he spoke with an inside source at Bethel Church, and the details are alarming. According to the source, Bethel is laying off around 50 employees, with more layoffs reportedly planned for August. But here's what makes this story so concerning. The source believes many of those being let go are the very people who asked difficult questions and pushed for meaningful change within the organization. If true, that would suggest Bethel's public promises of reform were more about protecting its image than addressing deeper problems.
It gets even more troubling. Winger says employees receiving severance are reportedly required to sign strict non-disparagement agreements. He also states he has personally reviewed one of these agreements and says it went far beyond a typical NDA, restricting people from saying anything that could damage Bethel's reputation.
Then there's The Passion Translation controversy. According to Winger's source, Bethel plans to move forward without addressing the concerns surrounding The Passion Translation. He also points to reports that discussions about the translation have been censored in Bethel's alumni Facebook group. Adding to the controversy, Candace Simmons recently claimed that a Bethel elder apologized after The Passion Translation was briefly removed from Bethel's bookstore, calling it a "glitch," before it was placed back on sale.
