Ok so it's tone deaf, and nearly impossible to tune accurately. It runs on the same technique as a Theremin, but with a voltage controlled (FM) pitch oscillator mixed with a reference oscillator.
The timbre control feeds some of the audio output back into the control voltage input, which distorts the sine wave and produces harmonics.
