If not earlier, The Band Concert (1935) lost its original United Artists titles when its negative was updated for non-theatrical distribution in the early 1950s. This “burlap note swirl” version was used well into the late 1970s, when the negative was altered again to become the version we see today. David Gerstein found a print containing the original 1935 titles at the Library of Congress a few years ago, and while I’ll always prefer originals over reissues, the note swirl titles of the 1950s version do fit the story perfectly, don’t you think? Scanned from a 16mm IB Technicolor print.
