Two versions of the 1953 Disney short Toot, Whistle, Plunk and Boom were filmed – one in Cinemascope, and one in the standard Academy ratio. While it’s more interesting to look at differences in actual scenes, here are the opening and closing titles to the Academy version, scanned from a 16mm Eastman LPP print dated 1986. After the short’s initial theatrical run, this was the common version seen on 16mm, home video and and TV. The Disney Rarities dvd and the Fantasia 2000 dvd use the Cinemascope version – but unfortunately letterboxed inside the 4:3 format.
