As we’ve seen before, early home movie versions of Disney shorts can sometimes be helpful too, like this GB Movie-Paks release of Pantry Pirate (1940). This is the earliest version I’ve seen of the updated 1937 Pluto headshot (eyes filled in and some other lines thickened), but it may also have been introduced in the previous entry, Bone Trouble. No other title frames are mistakenly left in, so we don’t know if this release was a “Pluto the Pup” or simply “Pluto.” The Buena Vista reissue cuts to the original title card. Scanned from a silent 16mm Kodachrome print dated 1957, soundtrack added from the Treasures dvd.
