A selection of ten Mercury Living Presence reissues from Speakers Corner are feautured in today's video. The Mercury Living Presence catalog is full of fantastic recordings comprising large orchestral works, works for wind ensemble, organ recitals and piano music, both concertos and solo. The Mercury recordings feature a three microphone technique, which results in a wide dynamic range and a realistic, sometimes up front perspective. The Mercury Living Presence series is treasured among audiophiles, with original pressings fetching hundreds of dollars. In the early 2000s, the German company Speakers Corner reissued two dozen favorites from the Mercury catalog, many of them on The Absolute Sound Superdisc List. The Speakers Corner reissue series are all analog, beautifully pressed and presented with the iconic original artwork.
Although the series is out of print, minty copies can still be found for a reasonable amount, not much more than currently available audiophile reissues. With the supply of classical audiophile vinyl slowly dwindling, I wanted to highlight this superb series for my viewers.
