A late-November hike to Melakwa Lake feels like stepping into winter. The trail winds through forest, with a couple creek crossings adding interest, especially when rocks are slick or lightly dusted with snow. Around Keekwulee Falls, the first hints of winter appear, and the distant waterfall can be seen framed by trees with a touch of snow.
By the time the lake is reached, it already looks like winter—the shoreline and trees coated in fresh snow, the basin quiet, cold, and transformed. Every careful step along the trail is rewarded with this crisp, peaceful scenery.
Weather can change quickly this time of year, and some terrain may be avalanche-prone, so staying aware of conditions is just as important as enjoying the views.
