Eagle Lake is a seldom-visited destination within the Wild Sky Wilderness. Merchant Peak towers over the water, offering a stunning backdrop to this beautiful lake. In addition to numerous camping spots, there is also a cabin on the shore, built in the 1920s by a prospector named Ole Stone.
Getting to the lake is challenging. The route from Barclay Lake is steep, overgrown, hard to follow, and strewn with huge blowdowns. The other possible route involves taking a Forest Service road from the southeast to an unmaintained trail. However, this private road is dangerous due to a recent forest fire and is accessed through a gate that may or may not be closed and posted.
Once you reach this hidden treasure, all your effort will be rewarded with crystal-clear waters and superb alpine scenery.
