Another GBAesque cover. This time, I used six Generic PCM DACs set to 12000Hz at 8-bits instead of SegaPCM to simulate the DirectSound portion of the GBA's soundchip (I imagine the six PCM channels I used here would get mixed down to two, one for the left and right speakers). This is a song I've been wanting to cover since 2018. I remember wanting to cover it on PC Engine that year after listening to Michirin's cover of Cloudman from the same game. As was typical of me at the time, I thought there weren't enough channels (I didn't think of a clever way of incorporating drums and hats into one channel like Michirin did in her cover of Cloudman). Samples from the original song were used except for the bell, bass, square, and hats (which are handled by the GB channnels). I also used a steel guitar sample in place of what looked like scratchy sample in OpenMPT's sample editor. This is also my first tune to make use of software envelopes on the GB channels (introduced in a recent development build of Furnace), which is otherwise known as "Zombie Mode." This makes it possible to change the volume of these channels (especially the pulse channels) without an audible pop.
Also, I may not be a huge Mega Man fan (coincidentally, Mega Man 7 was the last Mega Man game I played, which was back when I was kid around 16 to 17 years ago. I likely played it in a Mega Man compilation pack for my GameCube), but I think Slashman might be my favorite robot master along with Metalman. Which Mega Man robot master is your favorite?
