Another FM Towns tune I decided to do. This song was originally composed by rigid_atoms for the PC-98 using BambooTracker. As the PC-98 is known Japanese computer, I thought it be fitting to port it to another Japanese computer, in this case the Fujitsu FM Towns. As Furnace is incompatible with BambooTracker's instrument format (.bti), I decided to recreate the patches used in the original song manually in Furnace. As you know, both the YM2608 and YM2612 have the same FM capabilities (as the latter is a cut-down version of the former). But, since the FM Towns has an 8-channel PCM chip (RF5C68), I decided to use sampled percussion and use sampled melodic instruments in place of the SSG channels in the original. This freed up one extra FM channel on the YM2612. I decided to utilize the extra FM channel for doubling up on instruments or for an extra echo channel. Like the SNES audio system, the RF5C68/RF5C164 soundchip has 64kb of space to store its samples, and the samples I used here take up 62kb of space (though I believe bankswitching is possible, unless I am mistaken). After the Fujitsu FM Towns, I believe it be fitting to port this song to the either the MSX (AY/YM+any additional chip that it was paired with during its lifetime), Sharp X1 Turbo (YM2149+YM2151), or Sharp X68000 (YM2151+OKI MSM6258), which are the other known Japanese computers (though I pretty much doubt that rigid_atoms would want this song to become the next FamiCommodore or El Diego).
I decided to record the tracker view with the oscilloscope for all channels because there was a bug in exporting all channels to .wav; the program will stop after rendering FM channel 3 (in extended mode), and will just stay there forever. I have brought this up with tildearrow (Furnace creator), and he'll address it soon. If you're interested, join the Furnace Discord server here: discord.com/invite/EfrwT2wq7z
