I was in need of an analog-to-digital converter in my current project and decided to use a Microchip Technology MCP3204 (link below). So it’s only prudent to make a short two video series (basics and details) about that family of DACs.

We start with an overview of the whole family. Then we look at the datasheets and discuss what Microchip calls “pseudo differential inputs” (they’re not really). Finally we build a circuit, write some code and see the MCP3204 in action.

00:00 Intro – ADS1115, MCP48XX/MCP49XX and now MCP3202
01:08 Family – 8 DACs with 1-8 channels and 10/12 bit resolution
06:59 Datasheet – of the 12 bit MCP3204 with four channels
14:16 Pseudo Differential – just handling common mode noise
20:31 Circuit – Arduino, MCP3204, two pots, function generator
22:44 Code – a short Arduino sketch, a library, and you’re finished
25:48 Demo – reading voltages from pots and a function generator
28:42 Wrap-Up – next up are the details, bye
