Wondering what the single best picking pattern for acoustic guitar is? Well we think we have a contender for you! An important advanced guitar technique, the down-down-up pattern is a powerful tool that you can employ in a wide variety of situations. It’s also useful for electric rhythm guitar, of course, so no matter what you play, it’s a technique you should work on.
In this short video lesson, Elixir Strings artist Massimo Varini explains how to play the down-down-up pattern cleanly and with good articulation. Using a couple of musical examples, Massimo shows how to reverse the pattern too, so you can ascend and descend through chords smoothly with stopping.
