The phrase “inverted thirds” might sound intimidating but using these two note shapes is a simple way of adding interest and some characteristically country blues-style flavor to your parts.
Here, Elixir strings artist Mandy Rowden demonstrates the technique and shows how easy it is to move the shapes around the fretboard for different keys. Either fingerstyle or plectrum-and-fingers hybrid picking works great with inverted thirds, so they’re perfect for acoustic and electric players.
